Amazon may be the world market leader in all kinds of products, but the Fire phone sees the company’s debut attempt at trying to make a dent in the mobile phone market – it is the first smart phone designed by the company, and Amazon have pushed the boat out in terms of creativity in adding three distinctive touches that make the Fire phone totally unique when held up alongside its competitors: Dynamic Perspective, Firefly Technology, and Mayday. These three are all factors that make the Fire phone truly interesting, and we are curious to see if Amazon’s ideas will soon be replicated by rival companies. Let’s take a closer look at these innovative Fire phone features.
Dynamic Perspective
This is truly an awesome feature, but it does take a bit of getting used to at first, because it is so unlike anything else previously seen on a phone. Dynamic perspective lets the user experience a new degree of interactivity and immersiveness. For example, users can use maps to view 3D images of buildings, or see detailed views of products available on the Amazon shopping app, or even take on the perspective of a character in a game, to see around corners and obstacles. Users can also access shortcuts with one hand and navigate their way through the phone by using tilt, auto-scroll, swivel and peek functions. It may take a little while to suss out, but the idea is truly cool, and pretty nifty to try.
Firefly Technology
This time-saving technology is pretty useful: it is used to quickly identify things and action them. For example, Firefly can identify printed text on posters and magazines, as well as make calls for you, save contacts, send emails and visit different websites – all without you having to type in any long addresses! Firefly can also amazingly translate text. The user can simply point at text on a menu or road sign and Firefly will translate it for them. The technology can also recognise thousands of movies and TV shows, as well as live TV channels, and can provide you with instant, IMDb-powered information on these, or add any to your Watchlist to view later.
Mayday
Mayday is Amazon’s award-winning customer service, and with Firephone you can have this on your mobile phone. All you have to do if you need help is hit the Mayday button to summon an Amazon expert to help you instantly over live video. This feature is designed to be an easy way for users to have things explained to them that they dont understand about their phones – and help will come in the form of drawings on your screen, so you are fully walked through the process. Or you can ask your expert to simply do something for you if you are not interested in learning how. Privacy is protected as the video is one way; you can see your helpful expert, but they can’t see you. Mayday is available over Wi-Fi and over the 02/AT&TÂ cellular network.
