Introducing the Gorgeous Samsung Galaxy Alpha
Samsung has finally bestowed upon the world a phone which delivers beauty and brains in equal measure. The
Galaxy Alpha has just been officially announced, and there are much excitement and hype surrounding this phone’s
impending release, as it is turning Samsung’s norm for phones entirely on its head.
An Artform in Design
The Alpha is Samsung’s first true attempt to deliver a smartphone with incredibly sleek and gorgeous
design, something that looks completely and utterly different from their usual offerings. And they have done a
commendable job. The Alpha is a metal-clad beauty. The metallic frame offers it a much more premium
appearance than Samsung’s traditional plastic design; it is extremely attractive and appealing, but of course, it does
have to be noted that it does sway slightly into iPhone territory with its flat-edged rim and shape.
Aside from this almost unavoidable comparison, Samsung have done a truly terrific job with the design work and
we especially love the range of colours the handset will be offered in: Charcoal Black, Dazzling White, Frosted
Gold, Sleek Silver, and Scuba Blue… definitely something for everyone’s tastes! We think that fans of Samsung
phones will surely love how this new model both looks and feels in their hands.
Streamlined Looks and Performance
The Alpha weighs in at a diminutive 115 grams and measuring 132.4 x 65.5 x 6.7 mm – making it appear much
more compact and chic than it’s Samsung predecessors. The 4.7 inch display is, however, still plenty big enough to
give the phone Samsung’s traditionally praised user-friendliness. The display also offers a good performance, it is
well lit, bright and perfectly colourful. It is 720 pixels and decently sharp, but we predict there will be some
complaints that it is lower resolution than other new premium smartphone handsets which have been released with
1080 pixel displays, but it must be remembered that these are usually larger screens than the Alphas.
As for performance, the Alpha features an octa-core processor with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.
Unfortunately, there is no microSD slot for expandable storage – something we were pretty surprised to discover,
seeing as Samsung usually includes this useful feature on their handsets. Connectivity wise, the phone comes
equipped with LTE support, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, NFC, and USB 2.0. However, the battery is a 1,860 mAh,
which has a way lower capacity than the battery in the Samsung Galaxy S5. We, therefore, predict the battery life of
the Alpha may be somewhat underwhelming.
These little downsides are made up for, however, with the fantastic 12MP camera with 4K video recording
capability. It may not be the S5’s 16MP camera, but honestly, the images it produces are fantastic, and the camera
function is simple to use, and quick to focus and snap – everything you need in a phone’s camera!
Overall, this is a fantastic new offering from Samsung which will most likely be the first in a long line of new
generation Samsung designs. However, prepare to have your wallet pay the price for such a good looking and
functional phone – it is expected to retail for about 500 quid.
