In addition to working on perhaps the company’s first ever Samsung Galaxy flagship device that will sport a premium design, South Korean phone maker Samsung is also rumored to be targeting the lower market segments of the smartphone industry by releasing its first ever entry level smartphone of 2015, the Samsung Galaxy J1. The Samsung Galaxy J1 is rumored to be the first device belonging to the Galaxy J lineup of devices and will possess hardware specifications that will targeted to those masses who are not looking to spend exorbitant amounts of money on acquiring a smartphone.

Coming to the hardware specifications, the Galaxy J1 will possess the following:

  • 3 inch TFT LCD display with a max display resolution of 800 by 480 pixels
  • Marcell PXA1908 chipset
  • 64 bit capable quad core processor at 1.2 GHz
  • 1 GB of RAM
  • 5 MP rear camera along with a 2 MP front-facing camera
  • 4 GB of internal storage (along with a microSD slot for expansion storage purposes)
  • 1,850 mAh battery

The most interesting hardware detail of the Galaxy J1 is that it will possess an LTE modem. Seeing as how entry level devices at most possess a 3G modem, looks like Samsung has finally recognized the potential of the entry level market. However, the disappointing thing about the device is that it will be running Google’s previous Android operating system update, KitKat 4.4.4.

Samsung has not released the pricing details of the Galaxy J1. The price tag of the smartphone might shoot up thanks to the assimilated LTE modem but if Samsung does manage to stamp it with a price friendly tag, it will charter a new course for the leading Android phone maker.
